Duke Energy bought a majority risk in REC Solar, one of the widest companies that installs solar panels within other businesses.

Among others, IKEA associated with Costco have bought solar arrays therefore to their rooftops from REC, which mananges mostly in the West.

It's a departure to suit Duke, which has a renewable energy subsidiary, unfortunately almost exclusively focuses on large-scale business projects, such as solar and propane farms. The company has generally remained at away from the "distributed solar" business—putting decreased in size arrays on more businesses.

Fight it out spokeswoman Tammie McGee says the fresh new company and the current company is fine together by targeting smaller businesses, that might not want to own rooftop solar metabolism outright. Duke Energy Renewables will offer you leases.

"If you're a small in medium business and you can't give the upfront cost of buying a solar system overall Duke Energy Renewables will purchase the system and then sell the power to the consumer over a period of years, " says McGee.

Duke will put up $225 64,000 for these kinds of leases.

"It's the other indication that Duke sees enlosar as an important piece of the future removal game, " says Steve Kalland, executive director of the NC Healthy Technology Center. "And they've really been slowly but surely growing their presence. "

But , the leases will not be to be found in the Carolinas. By law, the only contractors allowed to buy power are licensed utilities, including Duke's other subsidiaries, but not Duke Energy Renewables.
